Too young for narcolepsy??? Maybe you should find another physichian. You can`t bee to young for narcolepsy, it`s only more difficult for children to get diagnosed, because it`s much more difficult for them to explain their situation. Often they don`t even know that it`s something wrong with them at all. Appart from being weird, that is. I have had narcolepsy all my life, although the disorder didn`t became a real problem to me untill I was 29.

Winter is the worst time for me now. I take 20 mg more Ritalin on winter days, and still the days are not good. Without meds I`m almost not able to stay awake on cold days at all. My head will be aching and I will have constant sleep attacks.

As a child I had very few sleep attacks, the main symptom was automathic behavior (REM sleep when appearantly awake - often labeled as "daydreaming" or "lack of concentration"). I don`t remember if this was worse when cold, but I was always freezing as a child. The other kids used to play in the snow. Not me, only after a few minuites I felt as if knifes were cutting through my fingers and shoulders. I have never thought of this in connection to narcolepsy before, but as it`s mentioned - I was freezing a lot more than normal kids.

Before I got meds I used to freeze in connection with sleep attacks. But in winter it`s the opposite. When I come from outside on a very cold and freezing day I start feeling very warm on my way up the stairs and my head starts aching. Inside my appartment I can do nothing but head for the couch. If I sitt on a chair I will fall. On the most unlucky days I also have cataplexy attacks which paralyzes my hands, so I can`t take of my coat and shoes, and speech, so I can`t tell people around that I have to sleep but they will notice, of course...). As I have meds now this won`t happen every winter day, but it still happens much too often. I don`t have low blood pressure.

Heat is no problem to me - of course I`m less productive when it`s really hot, but so is most people. Summer and autumn are always the best seasons for me. I pray every year that autumn will last untill christmas and that winter will be short.
