DeeAnn,
Just composed a long and detailed post but I think my initial effort didn't send either! Let me try to summarize: Glad you found a good sleep doc. Don't worry too much about your sleep study results, mine had major interference because I was emotionally agitated over a fight with my husband and I still got diagnosed properly, based on history and self-report of symptoms. You might still want to consider trying Provigil before stimulants--my sleep doc (who has treated well over 50 pts. with Provigil) says best Provigil responders are those with no significant past treatment with stimulants. Others like Provigil but find it "not strong enough". Keep in mind that this forum is giving you a day-by-day microanalysis of a group of people on Provigil for the first time, and we all are really scrutinizing and sharing our side effects since the drug is new here. You're not reading parallel reports of people's initial day-by-day experience on Ritalin. Few people on this forum will remember their day-by-day reactions to Ritalin and its side effects when they first began taking it, it's been too long to retain that kind of detail unless the reaction was extreme. And people who are having problems with Provigil may be posting more than those who are not--not as much motivation to write if it's working fine. If you do have hypersomnolence, you probably won't have as much difficulty with insomnia on Provigil as those with narcolepsy, since disrupted nighttime sleep is more characteristic of their disease. All of my side effects at 200 mg. Provigil have been mild and/or very transient--no nausea ever on 200 and no headache beyond the first day or two. No insomnia (just a wish to make up for lost time by staying up late!). At this point I also believe my wt. gain is more likely menopausal and was just masked while I was on stimulants--doesn't look like there's any consistent pattern of wt. gain on Provigil. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.
