Hi Annette, there's good news & bad, NO, narcolepsy cannot be cured. The good news is that it can be controlled thru medication. This is not a cure all type medication & has it's share of pitfalls but trying out some meds, once diagnosed, can be the start of your having a life without 10 naps a day! So, if you're tired of sleeping your life away then go see your MD & have him or her prescribe medication.
Provigil is a new medication for narcolepsy that is a Non Narcotic with less side effects and no addiction concerns. It does have some side effects though. I've been on it for 6 months & have found the dosage thats right for me & I'm doing well. No more falling asleep at my desk!
I'm not experiencing any nausea (one of the side effects). They say that Provigil is working best for people who are not already on the amphetamine type meds. That sounds like you.
It also sounds like me 6 months ago. I was just suffering with it, not willing to take Narcotics.
Good luck, Vern
