Maybe I am, maybe I ain't ...

Posted by Angi on August 24, 1999 at 06:42:10:

Hello to everyone.

I started taking diet pills about a month and a half ago. Gosh, I felt wonderful. I only napped about 30 - 45 minutes a day. Woo Hoo! So I began thinking this is great but once I lose the weight what I am I gonna do.

When I went in to the doctor to get my next months supply of diet pills, I asked about my excessive sleepiness. She immediately made me an appt. with a sleep DR.

Sleep Dr. thinks I probably have narcolepsy. Made me stop taking the diet pills. So the sleep/nap study results will not be flawed. Woo Hoo turns to Boo Hoo. :( I am exhausted. My sleep study isn't until Sept 15.

Sometimes the symptoms make sense and other times they don't. Last night I had what may be sleep paralysis. I am laying in bed, almost asleep and I can't move anything. But if I concentrate real hard I can move a finger or something after a minute. Once I move a finger I can usually roll over or anything. One time last night I moved a finger once and then couldn't move anymore. Is this sleep paralysis or do you have to be unable to move at all? BTW, I have done this all my life and when the doctor asked about being paralysed before going to sleep I didn't even think about this.

Also what makes automatic behavior a "symptom" of narcolepsy? My husband is worse about automatic behaviors than I am (and he doesn't have narcolepsy or EDS). I only do it for a few seconds but he does it frequently when he is driving, sometimes he will not remember 10 - 30 miles.

Sorry so long, but this is all so new to me.

Many Thanx -

Angi
