Wt. loss products and diets are nearly always ineffective for MAINTENANCE of wt. loss. For that, there has to be a total life style change of eating habits and exercise. Losing weight on products like Medifast or fad diets and then regaining it is more harmful to health in general than maintaining at a heavier weight, though I realize your apnea improves/resolves with wt. loss. Prozac can be taken with dexedrine but in my experience as a therapist working with overwt. pts., Prozac does not often produce wt. loss for these pts., and if it does it's not significant (less than 10 lbs.). In terms of maintaining wakefulness, you might try Adderall--it worked for me when none of the other stims. you mentioned did. It also has at least as much potential to cause wt. loss as dex (is chemically pretty similar to dex but still often affects pts. differently than dex). But you're probably going to have to make some changes other than meds to achieve the wt. loss you want. I would also mention that it's starting to look like the low fat-high carb diet we've been brainwashed to think is good for wt. loss is a hoax. Read "Sugar Busters" for more info on this. However, I think the Sugar Busters approach is too rigid for most overwt. people to adhere to--just orient your diet more toward small portions of protein and unrefined carbs (whole grains/fruits/veggies). But don't deprive yourself too much or you'll rebound right back into wt. gain. And exercise is nonnegotiable, for metabolic reasons as well as health reasons--you've got to do it! Good luck,
Linda P.
