Provigil and Elavil?

Posted by Jason on August 26, 1999 at 02:16:24:

I am new to this forum and have been reading about everyone's experience with Narcolepsy but have not heard anyone mention Elavil/Amitriptyline as their nighttime medication. I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy 8 years ago and have tried the usual med's like Cylert, Dexidrine, and Ritalin etc. but with the unwanted and often violent and attitude changing side effects. I have just started taking Provigil and have been on it for two weeks on a low dosage of 100mg once a day in the morning. It really worked for me the first 2-3 days and i was actually able to talk to someone that you don't really know well without getting completely drained for the day, but it has lost it's initial effect and i actually feel worse than i do without it and require more sleep at night when taking Provigil but i can't decide if it is helping or hurting yet, but i am still willing to give it a try. I am also on 75-100mg of elavil at night and have heard that this combo can cause some bad side effects. Anyone have any info on this combo? Thanks for the help. It really feels good to know that there are people out there that know what you are talking about and actually take Narcolepsy more seriously than most of the people around us, that just don't really understand what we go through to just try to look and act "normal" on a daily basis. Thanks.
