Worried about drugsI

Posted by Obsidian on September 20, 2002 at 15:55:18:

I am going to have a sleep test in one week to see if I have narcolepsy.. Months ago, before I even had heard of narcolepsy, I ordered Phentermine (A diet pill) thru the internet because of the extreme daytime sleepiness and I was afraid I was going to lose my job. It was OK at first, then I had to take more and more to stay awake. By then, I was so depressed at the way I was feeling that I finally went to the doctor and asked for help with the sleepiness. She gave me Ritalin. One 20 mg tab per day. Nothing. She has increased this to 60 mg a day. The problem is this: I seem to build up this tolerance for these drugs and end up taking LOTS of them. For instance, today I have had a total of over 300 mg of Ritalin. This is the first day I have taken so much. But I was falling asleep at work (again) and I was getting desperate. I haven't been taking the Phentermine because I ran out and didn't have enough money to get more. The Ritalin has kicked in and I feel very awake, but this is going to do real damage to my body and I am concerned that if I am diagnosed with narcolepsy, I won't have any luck with any meds! Do the other meds work better than the Ritalin? Will I get "hooked" on the other meds? I am so worried that I am going to NOT have narcolepsy and instead be a drug addict! How do the rest of you cope with drug worries?
