Posted by owl on September 21, 2002 at 14:22:55:I am waiting for a neurological consult and MLST. I asked for one from my Doc after posting here - rather than just starting drugs. Also after reading here, I realize that I do have some c, though it is not debilitating as it is for many of you. I feel so certain that I must have had N since about age 10 when SP and HH began. And it is amazing how much confusion and wierdness that seems to descend on me during the day - even separate from times that I KNOW I am sleepy and go nap in the bathroom - are now improved if I nap. I was accustomed to telling myself, "I'm just being lazy, I need some air, I am just not paying attention, I am such a space cadet. Am I going crasy?" Now when I feel this way, I tell myself, "Oh, I'm sleepy. Go to my car or whereever, as soon as I can and sleep 10 -20 min and wake up a NEW PERSON! This does not solve everything, becasue I can't do this as often as I need to - but it just shows me how many of my unexplained mindstates I did not recognize as need to sleep. I carry an alarm clock everywhere I go now.
Here are my questions:
1-I agreed to take provigil while I am waiing for the consult with specialist and MSLT. I took it this morning for the 1st time, 100 mg. The doctor said to increase it gradually. The 1st 5 hours were wonderful. I did not nap and felt very energetic and uplifted. Then I felt vaguely tired and took a nap. But the nap turned into SP and HH, and I had a hard time awakening. Slept 2 1/2 hours and was extremely groggy and heavy when I got up. Does anyone who has had provigil have a comment? I am wondering if it maybe wore off because the dose was not yet high enough? Am I just adjusting or something?
2-Also, during the 1st 5 hours, I felt as though my heart rate was a little high. My neighbor has a blood pressure cup she loaned me, and my pressure was high 168/114 with pulse 65. That is not usual for me. Although it felt like my rate was up it was not.
Would appreciate comments from those who have had provigil.
