I was diagnosed last year in May and I was put on Provigil. I was really excited to be going on it because my doctor told me it is a "miracle" drug and that people had reportedly felt that it had changed their lives after going on it. Well, I felt more tired on it than before and more depressed. I have depression also and I take effexor for that. So, now I'm on 36mg of concerta (the longer lasting Ritalin) along with 20mg Ritaling in the a.m., which I take 1 hour before I want to get up out of bed to wake myself up - AND this really works for me! I have no one else to shake or wake me up or to ask to call me in the a.m. I'm single! Not by choice either..Anyway, I could not get out of bed on time for years! I was in trouble at my job to say the least before the diagnosis of narcolepsy....Now i'm getting here on time with being disciplined about my sleep schedule -having a bed time and getting the amount of sleep that my body requires...In the afternoon, I take 20mg of Ritalin at 1:00 p.m. or so and then again at about 4:30p.m. I don't always feel that awake during the day even on this dose, but it is a lot better than before without it. I don't want to take more Ritalin because I don't want to build up a tolerance and I know it works for me now and I will have to take it the rest of my life, etc..My work will not allow me to take naps here so I have to take the meds. I don't drink caffeine after 12:00 p.m. usually too because I heard that it makes us more tired in the long run and also it negates B vitamins which I also take for energy and depression. They work! Magnesium and calcium supplements also work for me for increasing my energy. Avoiding drinking alcohol completely also helps me a lot to feel more energized...Hope all this helps!
Christine
