Posted by Barely awake on November 20, 2002 at 13:07:03:Hi, I was wondering about my symptoms also...I've never fallen down laughing (maybe because I've been depressed for several years!) but I have had some experiences that, looking back, seem to resemble cataplexy.
One of them was with my former, seriously disturbed roommate...after a semester of living together, she suddenly got really mad at me. At the time, I was both really surprised and angry also, and my jaw was trembling uncontrollably. I actually had to put my hand under it to keep it somewhat steady. A similar thing happened with my dad a few years before...I don't usually get angry, but I did with him, and my jaw had the same problem.
A few months ago, while being intimate with my boyfriend, I started shaking all over, my jaw and hands, etc. He got somewhat worried, and I did too, but eventually it went away.
I haven't yet seen a sleep doctor, since I have been depressed and my psychiatrist writes my sleepiness off as depression and just regular college-student tiredness. But I do wonder if these are symptoms of cataplexy.
Thanks...
Barely awake
