Automatic behavior has always been a problem for me. When I get out of my sleep schedule it gets worse. Put the dishes in the washing machine once and let it run - needed new dishes anyhow. Brought $150 from the bank and never could find it. Garbage and clothes in the ice box are common. I lose things all the time and find them later put away very neatly in some spot that must have made sense at the time. At times I'd find myself in my truck and be either somewhere unfamiliar or somewhere familiar but not where I was driving to. Sometimes I'd get in the truck at the store and the next thing I'd know was that I'd be at my freeway exit 10 miles away and not remember even starting the engine.

I've only had two witnessed cases of what you call classic C. One was on my last day of work, taking care of a patient on a ventilator, things went bad, and I went down. A couple of months after that my daughter did something that just got me laughing hard and I just went down in a pile. Yet in sleep studies I had only one minor incident of abnormal REM. I just fall asleep quickly. Think MSLT was in 2 or 3 min range. So that's my experience. Hope it's helpful.
