Xyrem is thought to help normalize your night time sleep patterns. I have been taking it for 3 mos. and have found that I have less awakenings and seep to sleep deeper at night.

It helped me to wake up in the morning at a dose of 4.5 grams 2x per night. Unfortunately that dose (very low) produced the side effects of nausea and vomiting. I am very tiny, and I think this drug is body weight specific. They took me down to 3 gram 2x/night and the side effects went away but so did the great 'dawning effect'. It did continue to help with staying asleep at night though. They are now slowly moving me up to the highest dose that I can tolerate.

I know that tricyclic anti-depressants can surpress REM so that you don't get as much HH and SP (Xyrem is supposed to do this as well).
