Posted by Embee on February 13, 2003 at 18:02:22:I was diagnosed with narcolepsy on January 03 this year. My consultant said that I had to stop driving immediately as I was no longer insured (I am in the UK). His hope is that we will get the medication right and I will get my licence back. He started me on a low dose of Provigil (100mg). I had to take this for three days; 200mg for the next three and then 300mg after that. If I took 100mg at, say, seven o'clock, at eight o'clock I would have a headache which lasted until mid afternoon. I persevered and increased the dose. 200mg, meant a headache which never went away. However my appetite did. I would quite happily not have eaten at all indeed, I only ate because I take another medication which must be taken with food and the pharmacist had given me dire warnings of what would happen if I didn't! My consultant had made me promise to ring him if I had problems with the Provigil. I did so on the fifth day. As I told him, I was less safe driving because of the headache and, anyway, I felt so awful that I didn't want to go anywhere - lying down in a darkened room was the sum total of my ambition! I asked him if he thought that if I persevered, I would be able to tolerate Provigil and he suggested that I put the dose down to 100mg for a week to see if I could. I gawe up after six days as the headaches were no better. It took a week or so to get rid of the headache and as I am severely overweight,I was quite pleased that it took even longer to get my appetite back. I have seen several messages about Provigil and loss of appetite but has anyone else had a problem with headaches with this drug?
