Hi
Thanks for the message. I totally agree with what you said, it was my hope that my original posting would have conveyed what you have stated in your reply. I too have the medical background as such but more importantly in my mind, am a PWN and do agree with you in that those of us with N tend to research the topic and thereby gain more knowledge than many of the medical professionals in practice. In addition, you can't read anything in a therapeutics manual that will give you the depth of knowledge gained by experiencing a condition such as N. I believe that's partly from a lack of knowledge/research on the disease state itself but also due to the fact that regardless of the level of scientific data gathered or descriptions written, there are some things that will always remain beyond comprehension, not only with N but with many, if not all, other disease states as well. I also believe that the support that is gained from this website is beyond incredible, I thank God the day I found this forum as it has helped me in so many ways.
In hindsight, I think my original posting was spurred on more by an elderly patient whom I encountered during my shift earlier that day than it was by the message I saw on the forum. To explain, I had an elderly lady come into my practice with information, which was well intentioned however, improperly conveyed, which lead her to delay treatment and put herself at great risk for a serious problem. The info she had obtained was from a family member, and as a practitioner it was very difficult for me to convince her that the very well intentioned family member had mistakenly lead her to do something that I now had to get her to do the complete opposite. Not having had a long standing pt relationship with this lovely woman made it much harder to get her to trust my judgement. As a result, coming home at the end of the day and stumbling upon a message on the forum with a clear error pushed a button and my original response may/may not have come through as clear as I wish it would. Thanks
