Right now there are only two things that can say ,without a doubt, that you have N and not something else. One is classic cataplexy. The other is a test for hypocretin levels in spinal fluid. HLA test are not specific. Normals can have the same HLA results at narcoleptics. If you have never had a decent sleep study then you really don't know what is going on.

The only time diagnosis of N can be made without a test is through observed cataplexy. If that is not happening, the overnight study to rule out other problems, and the MSLT to see how sleepy you are during the day can help but the results can never been absolute. I come down to best guess with the results of sleep tests.

I would go to a accredited sleep lab and find out what is happening during the night. There are many disorders that give the same sleepy symptom.
