Narcolepsy can run in a family. Children where only one parent has N have a low probability that they will develop it.
It is not uncommon for someone to have more than one disorder. The odds of a parent with sleep apnea having children with sleep apnea is much higher than passing on N.
Have you been studied for sleep apnea? You may want to try the sleep test on this site to see if you have the symptoms. If you see a lot of sleepy people in your family tree the odds are there is more sleep apnea than N. The shape of your face and airway are hereditary, and are what usually cause sleep apnea.
You do not have to snore or be overweight to have apnea. It is due to the size of the airway starting at the nose and down past the base of the tongue.
Investigating apnea may be something you should look into, not only for yourself but for anyone else in the family who is experiencing sleepiness.
