Asking for Xyrem? Help KC/St Louis

Posted by Clint on August 05, 2003 at 18:28:09:

I was diagnosed in december... have been on Adderall 30mg morning and 20mg evening since about February and it has worked well for my narcolepsy. However, I've had big problems getting any of my neurologists to help me with my cataplexy. I was prescribed tonafranil with nothing but adverse effects and amnitriptoline with similar results. I've mentioned Xyrem but few have heard of it and I usually get blown off by the doctor.

How do I go about asking my doctor if we can try Xyrem without seeming like I'm out to get drugs? My cataplexy is at times scary and has yet to be addressed in a serious manner. If anyone in the Kansas City or St Louis area can help with a local doctor that'd be appreciated too.
