Ode to A Comfortable Bed

Posted by zzzz_Im_awake_really on August 06, 2003 at 17:58:11:

Or an uncomfortable chair, a theater seat, a passenger seat, a lunchroom table, I'm not choosy.

I can't tell you when I actually came down with it. You know, caught it like a terminal strep throat infection.

It was gradual for me, I think. More and more, I started listing - SLEEP - as my favorite thing to do. Then I started looking forward to those rare times that I was "allowed to sleep". You know, when it is "normal" to feel tired...like jet lag, flu, day at the beach, etc. Then the best part of everyday, the most stress-free, happy moment of my entire day became - bedtime.

I have never once nodded off in a "non-safe" zone. Though it is excruciatingly difficult occasionally. Safe zones are very limited in my life right now. I'm not real open about my undeniably love of sleep. I consider all "non-safe" zones to be one or more of the following: driving a car, in the presence of a co-worker/family member/friend, in a public place, at work (not including break times),etc.

I'm here, but I'm not happy about it. I don't want to be "sick". I don't want to take pills at different times of the day, every day of the week like my grandmother. I hate having to explain my medication & why I take it every time I talk to a nurse or doctor regardless of the nature of the visit.

I want to feel motivated to accomplish things. I want to have the energy to complete the tasks on my To Do list. I want to be able to get up in morning and exercise, without begging myself half an hour later for a nap. I want somebody to ask me sometime - Are you tired? and I want to be able to answer honestly - no.
