Hi Shadow,
You understand my point. As you noted, the tricky part is finding a good doctor (or in most cases, a series of doctors) that will test for and rule out all of these potential illnesses including narcolepsy. I also agree with your point that it's possible to have more than one disorder or illness at a time :(
I brought up the gluten sensitivity because most doctors still consider it a "rare" disease that only 1 in 5,000 will get. Most doctors in this country will not even remotely consider it as a possibility unless you have all of the "classic" symptoms. It's only been recently that the blood bank study was done and the experts realized that it is extremely common (1 in 150 people). Many will never have symptoms other than the EDS, and that is why I wanted to bring it to the attention of those on this board. I find it interesting that both narcolepsy and gluten sensitivity are autoimmune illnesses and that they both have similar HLA markers.
I know what it is like to feel like your life's energy is being sucked out of you by some unseen vampire. No doctor ever made the connection that I have the gluten intolerance. I looked up the symptoms and pieced it together on my own, then I had an independent accredited lab test me for it.
I am so happy to have found that a change in my diet was all that I needed in order to have some energy again. I only wish it could be that simple for everyone out there!I hope for a breakthrough for each and everyone of you who have sleep disorders.
Wishing you all the best,
Snoozer
