Posted by Care on August 12, 2003 at 12:21:31:I've never posted to this board before, although I've read many postings and found them very comforting and informative.
I had my overnight sleep test this past Sunday night, plus the MSLT which ended late Monday afternoon. Even after reading what so many have posted here, I still wasn't prepared for my own surreal experience. I guess that's because everyone's experience is different, no two people's condition being quite the same. For me, it was like a waking bad dream that went on for 16 hours. I did not sleep much---or so I thought. Then suddenly, someone would wake me when I would least expect it, and I would realize I'd been sleeping when I thought I was awake. It was very strange. If nothing else, the time went pretty quickly.
I also want to add that I was diagnosed with hynogogic hallucinations and REM sleep paralysis when I was 15 years old. The doctor back then told me that I would "grow out of it" but that during times of stress to be prepared for it to temporarily return over the years. If that makes the more educated among you wonder, "Who IS that quack?", well, that was 35 years ago and I'm guessing a alot less was known about these things then. I've been fighting horrible daytime sleepiness and what I call "wobbly" attacks for all these years, ever since. But no one ever told me about something called "narcolepsy" until two months ago.
I get me test results on August 19. The night before my sleep test, I had a nightmare. In my nightmare, the testing doctor came into his office and said, "We could do this treatment or that treatment. But I won't. Go home. There's nothing wrong with you."
Anyway, sorry to dump feelings on board. Not asking a question, just wanted to thank everyone for posting. There's a lot of great information out here, and a lot of very good support. Best wishes to all.
