I also have idiopathic hypersomnia. I was frustrated with my diagnosis, as it was hard to find information about it, and it does tend to sound like a catch-all diagnosis. I found that the meds, plus taking good care of my body and taking mini-naps (10-20 minutes) helped me but was not by any means a cure.
Please consider getting tested to rule out food sensitivies (if you have not already done so). Food sensitivities are not the same as allergies, but are an autoimmune reaction to certain foods (usually specific proteins). Such autoimmune responses can set a person up for SEVERE fatigue. My symptoms sounded just like yours. I recently found out that I have a sensitivity to gluten (wheat, rye, & barley proteins). Once I stopped eating foods containing gluten, my energy has come back (after being gone for about 10 years). This took sticking to the gluten free diet for several months before I noticed a difference. If you choose to try the gluten free diet without getting tested, be sure to learn everything you can about it. Gluten is hidden in almost any type of processed food and it's easy to assume you are not eating it, but are still getting it hidden in everything from sauces to ice cream.
Please consider this and get tested to rule out such sensitivities. You could get your life back by simply changing your diet.Snoozer
