Below is the scale for the Beck test. A score of 31 puts a person in the low end of the category of 'severe depression'.

As to an answer of 1 on question 9 (thought of killing one's self, but wouldn't do it), I'm not sure of any special meaning other than it indicates "suicidal ideation". Which doesn't mean much more than that a person has thought about suicide.

1-10 These ups and downs are considered normal.
11-16 Mild mood disturbance.
17-20 Borderline clinical depression.
21-30 Moderate depression.
31-40 Severe depression.
over 40 Extreme depression.

* A persistent score of 17 or above
indicates you may need professional treatment.
