The Skinny on PROVIGIL

Posted by ZzzzMonster on November 21, 2003 at 11:17:52:

I've been taking Provigil for a while and have read the studies from page to page and the pharmacological data also. I've been gathering my own data from others that I know who take it. Having said that, all concerns I have read so far are ligitimate.

Provigil is an odd but very effective medication if you understand it. It only promotes wakefullness so if you close your eyes and say I want to sleep, you will sleep even if you took 400mg. However, open your eyes and you are alert. Different doses work for different people. Too much and you may get sleepy! Way too much and your heart will race! The effects last from 4 hours to 8 hours but roughly never longer than that. If you feel like being productive after taking it, its the Provigil doing that. If you have a pain in your head but not necessary a headache, its the Provigil. Maybe a stiff neck. Maybe you are on the cusp about to cough. Maybe your urine smells like the pill. Put your nose close to the pill and understand the scent. Next time you urinate, you should notice it. Do you ever feel cold after taking it? Provigil tends to restrict the vessels slightly. Try a hot shower to engorge them. Lose your appetite or gain your appetite? Its the Provigil. Feel like having heart palpitations? Check your pulse, it could be just a perception...it was happening in one of my friends. He thought he was palpitating but his heart was beating slowly and normally. Can it cause palpitations, sure so says the study. Is it addictive, absolutley not! It seems most users hate it. Does food affect the efficacy? The study says no, but for me it does. Maybe you feel a little "weird" when you take it. Most but not all Doctors don't understand that term. Maybe lightheaded or nauseous? Its the provigil.

The million dollar question....do the side affects go away?

They do or at least get better. However, it seems to regress over time and then go away again.

Provigil is not a perfect drug. Understand it and you will find your happy medium. Good luck!
