Yes, yes, yes, this does sound familiar! After spending a significant amount of time in a shopping mall, warehouse store, bank, etc., I too have a headache and just want to go lay down in a dark room! It does feel as though the life is being sucked right out of me. I mentioned this to my sleep doc, and she had never heard that one before. However, she is always respectful and never discounts what any of her patients say--she just says I'm unique. But apparently I'm not!
I also have allergies, asthma, and endometriosis, all inflammatory conditions. Certain snack foods cause a leathery rash to develop on either side of my nose, so I just don't eat them anymore. When I cut wheat out of my diet I felt so much better. What does this have to do with lights? Who knows? It seems that all these things are somehow interrelated.
I too experienced EDS and cataplexy at a relatively young age. As an infant, I was ill with rubella (mom was a carrier and didn't know it!). I can't remember where exactly I read this, but it is thought that perhaps narcolepsy may develop as a result of illness or trauma, suggesting that maybe N is an autoimmune disease. And so is lupus, if I'm not mistaken. I have a 9-yr-old son who nearly died from a burst appendix at 4 years old (to this day I thank heavens that he's here!), and I think he may have narcolepsy w/cataplexy, so I have an appointment with a neurologist. If he gets upset about something, his head drops and he has trouble talking. He also has a terrible time getting ready for school in the morning because of the sleepiness, even though he goes to bed early.
Sorry this is kind of rambly, a.m. is not my "prime time".
