As I understand it the lack of orexin is a symptom of the death of a specific set of neurons in the brain (in the lateral hypothalamus????). These are the orexin neurons which appear to not be functioning in people with classic narcolepsy with cataplexy.

So injecting Orexin probably won't help. Additionally injecting or taking pills doesn't work well in neurological conditions due to the blood brain barrier that therapeutic compounds often cannot pass (like dopamine for instance).
