Posted by sleepymedic on January 22, 2004 at 13:25:25:I was just diagnosed w/ N and work as a Paramedic for a private ambulance company. In the past 9 months I've only worked 4 months because of my symtoms coming and going. Well I just went back to work 1 week ago and worked 3/12 hour shifts. I had 2 episodes on 2 of the days. I didn't make to to work this past Wednesday because on the way I had to pull over twice because of my episodes of paralysis. Today my supervisors decided to inform me that when I work I no longer have driving status. I always get a warning of being tired before I have an episode, but they say "what if one time you don't then your puting yourself, partner and pt at risk." I understand but I don't want to do this anymore if I can't drive and attend every call. Any advice on how to cope?
I told them I don't think I can work such long hours anymore. But our shifts are 10, 12 & 24 hours. I had to get off my 24 hour shift already. I'm starting to think I should get into another proffession. Any advice would be great.
