I'm brand new here. I was diagnosed with narcolepsy about six months ago after years of fighting with constant sleepiness. Since that time, I've been trying to reconcile various traits that I possess (many of which I consider to be weaknesses) with this diagnosis.
Clearly the excessive daytime sleepiness is a direct result. However, as long as I can remember I've always had a horrible memory with concern to specifics. Things like people's names and faces, street names, birthdates, etc. I also find myself struggling to recall simple words... the other day I was caught midsentence for a good 15 seconds because I couldn't think of the word profit. However, I'm usually pretty good when it comes to remembering day-to-day commitments such as appointments and plans with friends.
Has anyone else experienced this? It's as though it's just a specific part of my brain that doesn't want to absorb certain information or is unable to retrieve the information.
This article I saw today on CNN cites a study that shows an excess of acetylcholine during certain sleep cycles contributes to memory problems:

J
