Posted by ERK1210 on February 24, 2004 at 04:58:33:I was denied life insurance because I was honest about having a sleep study done. I contacted the company and asked them how could they deny me before even knowing the results. They said to call back when the results came in. I did and told them I had narcolepsy. They said I had to be accident/problem free for 2 years before they would insure me.
Tried again with another company. Was honest from the beginning and told the agent about the narcolepsy. She went to underwriting and replied that I would be insurable if I was medicated because I had no accidents. Then I got the letter about being denied and having to send them my doctors address (which they already have) to send him the reasons why so he can go over them with me.
I am in the process of obtaining my MIB files. It takes 60 days but I understand that I have a file, my husband, who has been seeing a psychiatrist for possible bipolar, does not have a file.
Would narcolepsy be the reason for denial? Think the agent lied to me, maybe because she gets commission on applications? Would narcolepsy be what is on my file at the MIB?
My 8 year, full time, salary job has just been cut to 20 hours w/o benefits too. Their reason was that the dept can't cover my salary anymore, but we have hired 9 new people in my dept. I know it is my right not to have my status as an employee altered due to my medical history but I think this is their way of going around that. I was told that our co group policy has gone up tremendously and believe that since I carry the benefits for myself, my 2 year old girl and my husband that this was a way to cut the cost.
What should I do? Cobra is a LOT of money, more than my car payment and I have 90 days on that. What if I don't get another job within 90 days? How the heck can I be insured with this if I can't get in as part of a group??
Oh so many questions, I know. Any advice is well appreciated.
