The best thing one can do is try to keep or obtain group coverage thru their employer or spouse's employer.

I too was told when I began shopping for an individual policy, that N is considered a "catastrophic illness, like cancer or chronic heart disease". I don't agree, but I'm not sure you can fight insurance companies. I now qualify for Medicaid, which put my search to an end.

What you can do is check w/ your State Dept of Insur, and there should be a plan that you can purchase for those who are denied health coverage thru insurance cos. In Indiana it is called something like comprehensive insurance for catastrophic illnesses.
