Posted by mojo on February 27, 2004 at 00:21:19:I have these episodes where I am asleep yet functional and not aware of what I am doing/saying. It usually comes on when I am getting low on my meds..during the evenings or early mornings. I will be typing or driving or talking and have no idea what I am saying/doing. I know I am narcoleptic but I am not fully asleep when these things happen. Tonight I sent out an email and had no idea what it said-and I sent it out to EVERYONE on my list, friends, family, people I do business with..I am so embarrased..I did a follow up email and blamed the screwy one on constant interuptions from my child (I don't want some people on my list knowing that I am narcoleptic). I know its the narcolepsy but it really freaks me out, ecspecially when I am driving. I try to pull over until it passes but sometimes end up in really weird areas..like at night in a totally different neighborhood without knowing how I got there or how to get out. It's scary enough for me but I have a youngster that always goes, "Mommy where are we going?" that ususally wakes me up fully. Sorry this is so long-I guess I just needed to commiserate(sp?) with those that are struggling through this. I would give up driving but I have to work and I live in a rural area with little public transportation. I am so afraid that I am going to crash with my little one in the car. I do everything possible to stay awake-ice cold water, always, food, gum, loud music, window rolled down..I don't know what else to do. I am on meds but stronger doses keep me awake at night(here I am at midnight) and they don't last fully to keep me awake in the evening. I am afraid to mention this to my Doctor, I don't want to up my meds. Should I be looking at different kinds of meds. The adderall seems to work for the daylight hours 8-4 but my problem is the other hours. I am very stressed about this and very tired. Anyone have any ideas?
