Heat Intolerance

Posted by Abhi on July 12, 2004 at 15:14:17:

Hi there - I am returning to the forum after a long time away. My doctor felt sure that I had n, but I was not definitively diagnosed until last year (have apnea,as well, and needed several sleep labs). I tried Provigil but hated it, for all the reasons that some others have posted, and am now primarily using several naps a day, plus ritalin when I need a guarantee. I've considered myself lucky because once I started napping every 3 or 4 hours proactively, I could really tell a positive difference. I know that I've had n all of my life and that at times it has been worse than it is now. But recently I'm really struggling. I do well most days, if I am careful with naps, but once I hit evening or weekend, I don't want to do much besides stay home and nap LOTS. I can enjoy activities at home, but it is hard to get myself externalized.
Two factors that I cannot seem to master very well are food (I get sleepy after eating), and heat. I'd like any guidance any one might have at all concerning HEAT. I've been over-sensitive to temperature forever - heat especially makes me so weak and sleepy. But now I can hardly function when it is 75 or 80 outside - at times even less heat than that affects me. My legs feel like rubber and I can hardly move around. In winter, if I have too many blankets, I wake up panting and with my heart racing, but I recover as soon as I take them off. I have heard that intolerance to heat is commonly experienced by pwn - but I would like to know HOW some of you experience it. My reaction is so dramatic, my friend with MS thought I could have MS too, but the neurologist ruled that out completely because my brain MRI showed nothing unusual.
Of course, any thoughts about what to actually DO about this would also be appreciated.
