I'm curious about this REM behavior disorder. I've never heard of it and I'd like to know more. Could you tell a little about it?
I remember reading about a disorder in which the patients did not go into flacid paralysis during REM (as is normal - it's meant to keep us from hurting ourselves in our sleep) and, therefore, would act out their dreams. Is that what REM behavior disorder is?
Cataplexy is almost the opposite since it's caused by your brain going into REM (or thinking that it's going into REM, anyway) during waking hours and making your voluntary muscles go limp. So in the first case it seems like the mechanism isn't working enough and, in the second (C), it's in overdrive. That's so interesting, I think. Your husband doesn't have C too, does he?
Sleep paralysis is also caused by the same mechanism not working correctly and so that seems very interesting too! In the first situation (what I'm guessing is REM behavior disorder??), you're in REM and *should* be paralyzed but aren't. In the second (sleep paralysis), you wake up during REM and should be UNparalyzed but aren't.
Oh, how I wish I had all the time in the world to devote to learning about all this stuff! It's fantastically interesting how it all works and there seems to never be a rule about it all that isn't broken by one of us.
So, just to satisfy my curiosity, could you tell me what you know about it?
Thanks!
