ya, sleepygirl is right about seeing a new doc. I had to be taken off of ritalin a few years back because I was having many complications with it such as high blood pressure, etc...

You have the RIGHT to change your medication as you wish. No doctor should tell their patient that they cannot take anyother med for their narcolepsy. If the doctor refuses to give you anything else then see another doc.

Remember that doctors are there to surve the public, not themselfs or their opinions!

Ritalin is a very dangerous drug, no matter what people may think or say.
Plus ritalin is not a drug that was designed to treat narcolepsy to begin with! However there are new drugs that are being designed to treat this illness, such as Modafinil.

Everybody reacts differently to drugs but in your case I suggest trying Modafinil because it is suppose to be less dangerous on your body then drugs like ritalin. (thats if it's the ritalin that is causing your heart problem?)

When it comes down to your doctor don't let this guy/gal push you around! Show him/her who's boss and that person is you! This is your body and health and only you will make the final choices concerning your body+health not your doc.
If you say its time to try a new med for your narcolepsy then you will, whether your doc likes it or not!

In the end its you who suffers the consequences if your doc messes up! Your the one whos suffering while your doc is living a healthy, happy life. PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN AND STAND YOUR GROUND ON THIS.
