Ya I agree with you on the ritalin thing. Ritalin was not designed for narcolepsy and there is where the problems begin! I find it sickning that ritalin is always the first med prescribed for narcoleptics considering that we now have a new med designed specifically for narcolepsy called Modafinil (provigil in the U.S. or Alertec in Canada.) So why are people being given a none narcoleptic drug as a first choice? Sure some people say that ritalin works wonders for thier narcolepsy but that doesn't mean that it should be prescribed as a first measure against narcolepsy! Another thing is that its easy getting ritalin covered by insurance companies but modafinil is another story. These insurance companies will insure a drug that is not designed for narcolepsy but they'll deny insuring a drug that is designed for narcoleptic use, or will give a person a hard time trying to get it insured.
Thats the harsh reality of the old fashion business practice of "supply and demand" and thats exactly what these drug companies are, a business and money is the name of the game. Theres no compasion when it comes down to making
a buck even if people are suffering!!!

Once again narcoleptics are treated like dirt even when we have a medication to help us.

I started off on ritalin and I'll tell you that it was an terrible drug to take! I had to stop taking it because it was causing health problems. Eventually I started taking Modafinil which gives me a clean feeling. I don't feel like I'm on medication with this drug because it doesn't give me that medication, stoned sensation.
