FOR STUDENTS WITH NARCO

Posted by seabrooke on July 29, 2005 at 00:26:55:

Something that I notice alot on many of the past forums is that there are alot of posting made by students who have narcolepsy. I once was a college student myself when I was diagnosed with having narcolepsy so please take my experience in life into serious consideration.

The hard thing to come to terms with is that you need to understand that you have a disease that will probably make you disabled by the age of forty (stats have proven this!). So it is important that a student with narcolepsy should take that possible risk factor into consideration. If you find it hard to wake up in the morning time to go to school don't think for one minute that you won't feel tired every morning of your life when you begin working. The eds doesn't change and it my even become worse when you enter into the work force. So understand that your sleepiness is not going to go away after you finish your studies.

I don't want to discourage anyone who wishes to obtain a higher level of education. I'm even thinking about going back to school myself (I've just recently quit my job for personal reasons). I was also becoming to fatigued from all the harsh physical labour I had to endure in the past year, considering that I have to live with narcolepsy. But I wish to be able to continue working as long as possible. That is why if your a student you must remind yourself that you need to enter into the right career for not only yourself but a career that is "narcoleptic friendly." DANGER, stay away from physical labour work!!!

Just a piece of advise, If you can't tuff out school as a narcoleptic then your in for it when you actually start working. Either you must get tuff now or get your narcolepsy somewhat under control while your in school. If you don't your going to suffer big time when you have to start working.

However don't lose hope and be strong. Giving up on your future is a dead end. You never know, maybe you might be the few narcoleptics that can work until retirement? How can you know if you don't fight and give it a chance?

All the power in the world to you all!!!
