No, not all narcoleptics have cataplexcy however a large percentage have C. Usually these are the narcoleptics that test positive for the HLA marker that is under investigation right now. There have been some cases of Narcos with Cataplexcy that have tested negative for this marker...anyways I don't want to get off track.
There have also been many reported cases of narcoleptics that have been mal diagnosed as having epilepsy. So your concerns are well intended. It doesn't hurt to get tested for narcolepsy to stay on the safe side. However may I also remind you that epileptics can also experience EDS symtoms like a narcoleptic due to medication, attacks, etc... My friends girlfriend has severe epilepsy and I think she naps more often then I do because of the side effects of her medication.
Tiredandconfused, your posting sounds like the classic symtoms of narcolepsy. I'm sure if you read alot about narcolepsy you would find examples of the symptoms that sound simular to that in which you talked about. Its a good thing you tested negative for MS. Also you mentioned how you have trouble walking etc... I experience the same thing as well. I hate it because there are many times where I can't even walk down the street without paying attention to they way I'm walking. It really gets on my nerves having to try my best to walk like a normal person always having to remind myself to keep my balance and to walk as straight as possible. The wierd thing about it though is that I don't have to be experiencing emotions in order for this to occur. I think it sometimes has to do with fatique or some other reason. But I don't know if it has something to do with cataplexcy by what I hear from other narcoleptics. I guess Cataplexcy is more complex then experiencing strong emotions?
