Posted by Sleepyhead on August 11, 2005 at 12:00:11:I was recently diagnosed with IH although my doctor said he's quite sure it's mild N (I had ridiculous amount of anxiety during the sleep study). Anyway, he put me on Provigil which has been helping a lot.
Here's my question -- soon after my diagnosis, I woke up in the middle of the night with intense stomach pains. The next morning I was still experiencing pain and was sitting on our couch when I felt a wave of pain coming. I said "I think I'm blacking out" and then lost consciousness. My husband was with me and started slapping me and yelling at me but I wouldn't wake up. He called 911 and kept slapping me. After about a minute, one of his slaps woke me up. I went to the ER and they realized I had appendicitis, which explained the pain. But the doctors said the black out was unusual and they didn't know what to make of it. My husband said that while I was out I was making noises like light snoring even though my eyes were open and my pupils dilated. My memory is that when his slap woke me up I felt that I was asleep and had been dreaming. The docs did an EEG and I got a call that I need to come in to talk about some "mild abnormalities" in the EEG. But my appointment isn't for six weeks! I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. Do you think the appendicitis pain might have caused me to have a severe narcoleptic attack that sent me to sleep? Also, are "mild abnormalities" in an EEG at all related to N? Or do you think this sounds like something else? Thanks.
