Well first off I'm glad to hear that your alright. It must off been a stress having to go through what you just experienced with appendicitis.
You have asked a few questions and I found that some of them are good ones to ask however there is still alot about narcolepsy that we don't know about. One factor that has been mentioned a few times on this and other forums is the issue of pain and how it effects narcolepsy in some people. However I know of no creditble
reference that has actually conducted studies on pain and its effect on N. The only thing I can tell you are my experiences with pain. I do find that my narcolepsy will act up more often or even worse then the usual when I'm experience a certain amount of pain, especially tooth aches or neck pains. If the pain becomes unbearable to the point where I'm popping eight advil in one shot the narcolepsy will kick in hard time. My narcolepsy under these circumstances will cause my EDS to be so bad that its knocks me out cold. (not the advil but the pain will cause me to experience severe narc attacks!) So maybe that may be of some help for you however don't rule out any other possibilities under your situation. It would not be responsible for me to lead you to believe that you blacked-out because you may be a narcoleptic. So I'm sure you'll stay on the safe side just in case it may have been caused by something else. I had a friend that had appendicitis and I'll tell you that it looked very painful which you already know about better than I!
I wouldn't jump the ball on the EEG readings either because there could be dozens of possibilities for the abnormalities that were found. I know it must worry you but there is nothing I can say that can help reduce your stress until you find out what those abnormalities are. Chances are if the doctors knew that you may have mild narcolepsy then I would assume that they would have included that testing during your EEG. But if you did not have a MSLT (multiple Sleep Latency test) preformed then they can't really rule out on a positive or negative diagnoses for narcolepsy. (But I'm no expert on EEG's to tell you whether they can see signs of narcolepsy in a EEG if the EEG wasn't a MSLT or if you were asleep during the test.)
Thats also another reason why its hard to help you out here. I'm not a doctor and even if I were it is impossible to know whats going on with your health simply by talking on a forum.
I will say this however. The factor that you have been diagnosed with IH could mean that there may be a possibility that you may have narcolepsy as well, or maybe you were mal diagnosed as IH and you had narcolepsy all this time. So your doctors concerns are for good reasons. But once again I'm just giving you my opinion after speaking to other narcoleptics who also have IH or were mal diagnosed with IH and later found out they really had narcolepsy.
I'm just trying to help give you some comfort until you find out. Lets just hope your O.k. and its nothing serious.
