Posted by Mt. Dew on September 15, 2005 at 16:12:42:I was just diagnosed with N. No thanks to my family doc or therapist (treated for depression for the past 20 years). Sleeping ALL the time was normal, but I woke up recently after a 27 hour sleep and decided I needed to do something, so I called the Sleep Center. Best decision I ever made (better than leaving my ex). 8-)
I have been on 20mg Ritalin SR for 7 days. The first few days were absolutely wonderful. I was awake, ALL day. Then something changed, suddenly by 1 or 2 pm I was yawning, and was feeling a way that wasn't my normal sleepiness. I felt..dis-com-bob-u-lated. I couldn't think clearly, and felt like I went from awake to "stoopid" (i've seen the word use here, and don't know if it means stupid but that was how I felt)
My sleep doctor said it wasn't uncommon, that the dosages need adjusting to fit the person. Tomorrow I am to take 1 pill in the am and one at noon time. Is that normal? I mean, having to adjust the med's like that?
Another question if I may. An hour or so after taking it, if I become active, (like walking into work and up the steps) I start getting warm (not hot), and I will start to perspire. Is this common during the adjustment period? It's not common for my un-medicated self.
When the doctor told me it was N, I cried. I was so glad that I could be "fixed". Noone believed that I could be so tired, my family said I was lazy and my friends became frustrated with me. That was when I fell in love with Mt. Dew. The caffiene (sp?) kept me moving, and with enough, I could stay awake. I had two addictions in life: caffiene and sleep. I loved sleeping - my dream life was more exciting than my awake life.
Oh, another question: I have been having horrifying nightmares the past 3-4 nights. Is this part of the meds do you think?
Sorry for rambling on. I've finally found people who understand me. Now I don't feel so alone anymore.
Thank you.
