I have never taken Adderall or Adderall XR, but I Googled dosage Adderall Narcolepsy. It seems the normal dosage is 20 mg 3 times a day. One takes 30 mg twice a day. The least dosage was 5 mg 3 times a day. Generic seemed to not work as well as brand name. There were mixed results as to whether it worked for people with EDS.
There are other medications that he could use, and if you, as you say, have a wonderful Neurologist that listens, then you are LUCKY! Work with him, continue to let him know what is going on, and maybe getting Xyrem is what may help. It does seem that if Ritalin did not help, then it is not too far out there that Adderall would not help much either. Concerta is another med for alertness, but it is a long lasting form of Ritalin.
Keep at what you are doing by letting the doc know how you are.
Good luck!
