Service Animals for Narcoleptics

Posted by crystalsalem on February 06, 2007 at 17:52:32:

Does anyone with Narcolepsy have a service dog? Woudl having a service animal to wake you, or to help lead you to a place to lie down when you have a sleep attack help at all?

sometimes i'm overcome to the point where i can't really speak clearly...i kind of slur a bit. and i have to find a place to lay down. i don't always know exactly where to go, but luckily i work in a doctors office, and the nurses are kind enough to lead to me a room to lie down.

the sleep attacks have only happened a few times, but i wonder if a service animal would help if i am eventually diagnosed with narcolepsy. i would imagine the dog could nudge me when i start to drowse at my desk too!

but i don't even know if a service animal would be necessary...
