xyrem side effects?

Posted by narconurse05 on February 07, 2007 at 13:53:00:

My doc started me on xyrem 4.5ml twice a night back in Oct. I saw him 6 wks. later and he increased it to 6ml twice a night. About the same time I ran out of my OTC allergy meds and was out for about a week. After a few day, I started feeling jittery and funny in my head. I was quite concerned. So, being the nurse that I am, decided to reduce my dose back to 4.5ml twice a night-but was still having the same symptoms and also minor vertigo and tinnitus along with a decrease in hearing. Well, I continued 4.5ml twice a night and started on my allergy meds again. I suspected the new symptoms were from not having my allergy meds and having a cold. I have since stopped my allergy meds and been taking another OTC med for congestion. After 2 wks. of that went to my PCP and he gave me a different kind of med for congestion and fluid in inner ear, etc... I have been on that med for about a week and saw my sleep doc yesterday. I explained the scenerio and he checked my ears and thought I may have an ear infection (red ear drum, red throat). He gave me antibiotics and wanted me to continue at the 6ml twice a night. I didn't tell him I had only been taking 4.5ml twice a night. I did, however tell him I had decreased the dose to try to rid myself of the symptoms. Well, last night I tried the 6ml twice a night and have felt worse today. Lots of jitteriness and slight vertigo-basically everything as before any meds were started. I honestly think it is my inner ear because of the hearing factor (I have always had ear problems and even last year before xyrem had to go to doc for vertigo/fluid).
But since I did take 6ml. twice a night last night and it is so much worse today, it makes me wonder.
Has anyone had any similar problems? Did anyone have to adjust stimulant doses after starting xyrem?
I was doing really good after starting xyrem, I felt better than I had in a long while until the lack of allergy med/vertigo/decreased hearing business started.
Now I feel like a train wreck, AGAIN!!!!!
Also, I have been having some suspected low blood sugar episodes. If I eat breakfast and don't eat again for more than 3 hrs. I start getting shaky. Which is actually a lot like the jitteriness.
I know all this must sound very strange, but I have been trying so long to feel narcoleptic 'normal' and once I get close it seems like it falls apart.
Any ideas, suggestions, stories related to the incidences that you would like to share would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
