problem solving!

Posted by sirsleepsalot on February 08, 2007 at 10:25:10:

I am a thirty year old man that has had narcolepsy since I was 14 years old. I have had every symptom there is (sleep paralysis, hallucinations, severe cataplexy, EDS, etc.) I take provigil everyday and have figured out ways to function as normal as possible. Over the last couple of years I have begun to notice something very strange that I believe has something to do with my narcolepsy. I will do my best to explain it, and hopefully someone else out there has noticed something similar in their lives.
I will wake up (from a nap, in the middle of the night, in the morning, etc.) and immediately I will realize that I have come up with a real solution to a problem I was dealing with. Sometimes it is a solution to a manufacturing problem my company is having, sometimes it is a solution to a struggle I am having with a loved one, sometimes it is an entirely new product that I just plain dreamt up during my crazy vivid dream session I have every time I fall asleep. Basically, I am problem solving while sleeping, and I can recall everything when I awake. It doesn't happen every night by any means, but it has been happening frequently enough for me to post this message. Does anybody else with narcolepsy ever experience anything like this?
