Posted by warlord on March 16, 2007 at 10:37:27:This will be long as its my first post, But I thought I would share my experiences for others.
Im 26, I have been having problems when driving or at work where I have an overwhelming urge to sleep, To the point of whiteknuckling my steering wheel to get another mile to stop and take a 10min nap. During these episodes where I am keeping myself awake I feel like my breathing is deep and almost like I am out of breath. I have always had a problem that I would get these spells where I couldnt just function, I allways attributed to possibly low blood sugar, general diet, etc. But no matter what things I changed I still would get these Attacks. I had only ever had one such attack in a car until recently when I have had many, I went to see my doc. After telling him my symtoms and he suggested N. I jumped online and started reading more on it, (I had done some reading on my own but dismissed it for want of not having it lol). I have had problems at work where I will be reading a web page or working on a computer(Im in IT) and would just blank out, waking my self up snoring in a matter of seconds. Other times I would realize my eyes were closed when i heard screaming (sort of in the background) and would come to again and just brush it off as being tired. Whether I would get 2hrs or 10hrs sleep wouldnt change the happening just maybe move when the worst outbreaks would happen. Luckily my boss just wrote it off as me being eccentric and we get along great. Ive always been able to sleep anywhere anytime, Also I have had parents, mates, etc tell me that they have had episodes when I will be woken when I should be sleeping, have entire conversations with me that they cant tell I was even asleep, that I have utterly no memory of(even 5-10min later when I am woken again, this time groggy as if i was actually asleep).I never realized it but at every place I had worked I had worked out a place to go and hide/sleep for 5-20min when need be, just sort of out of habit since I never really thought about it. So when it all got to the point a couple weeks ago where I no longer felt comfortable in dealing with it my doc prescribed provigil and I was all for it since I really hate falling asleep uncontrollably at places I dont choose. My first day I was told to take it at about 8am, Well I was like a speedfreak All morning and early afternoon People KNEW I was on something. I was so amped i was just sitting inside sweating lol. (this was a 100mg dose btw) Afternoon came and the time(s) when I would normally get the worst "attacks" And I could actually FEEL the drug fighting back and keeping me awake, I was less clear than the rest of the day.. But I wasnt drooling on myself so that was a improvement. So the next day I moved the dose to closer to noon so I wouldnt waste all morning in a frenzy, for the next two days I got little reaction from it. I would still get very very sleepy but the amount of times was decreased I would find myself being asleep. I moved to 100mg in the morning(ish) and 100mg in the early afternoon and so far Its been great! no longer do I have to sleep randomly just to function. My main concerns right now with it is I have felt a couple of "fuzzy" moments when on it and Dont want to get what I have seen here refered to as the stupids. I would almost rather just sleep during the day/whenever and be crisp mentally. Only time will See whats going on, I also have been wary to take a sleep study for the reasoning of if future employer's or insurance carriers want to play games. I figgure as long as this med or a couple others is helping I wont worry about it too much.(Ive got a great Doc, having a parent being a nurse is allways good to weed out bad docs lol)
Hope this might help someone out there trying to read about it and whatnot. Thanks for all the info here guys
