Hi,

First off, how could your sleep study effect your insurance??? Unless you share that private information with your insurance company how would they know? Second off, narcolepsy would not effect your insurance, you do not have cancer or an illness that will require a lot of money in medicine on a monthly basis. SO no, I do not think that it will effect your insurance at all.

Correct me if I am wrong, did you say that you were a nurse? If you are a nurse then you should have realized something by now, "go get the test done!" You know that by not doing so that your doctor should not be prescribing medication to you for an illness that has not been proven that you even have. What happens if you do not have narcolepsy and YEARS later you find out that it was something else, all because you did not get the sleep study test done. You are also robbing yourself from life by not comfirming this beyond a reasonable doubt. It is no different then if a doctor says that you have diabetes and prescribes you insulin without confirming the diagnoses through blood tests, just by the symptons alone. Sorry but that is not a doctor that I would trust with my health! In the end that is a dangerous way of practicing medicine!!!

If you are a nurse you are also aware that there can be hundreds of illnesses out there that can cause sleepiness, fatigue, etc... What if you have a bad heart and you are not aware of it? There are many illnesses that can mimic narcolepsy, go get the sleep test done to confirm it!!! I have said this over and over again to people on this site in the past but nobody takes it serious, almost like this illnesses wasn't a serious disorder. Look, this is VERY SERIOUS as you can see, considering how it is effecting you life. GO GET THE SLEEP TEST DONE!

Now if you do have narcolepsy, that is if you go get the test done, then here is advice on how you can take your provigil. Try starting out with a lower dosage. I know that sounds strange but it is the truth. I notice that when I take a high dosage of provigil that it can sometimes bring on sleep attacks. What I did when I started provigil was along the same lines as yourself. When one dosage did not work I asked for a large dosage. In the end it did not resolve the problem. What you should do is start off by taking 50mg (half a pill) at a time. If you take three pills a day (300mg) only take half a pill at a time, 6 times a day. Yes, that is annoying but that is the only solution that will probably work for you. I found that when I took provigil at small dosages, spread out throughout the day, that this drug was the most effective. I warn you however, it might take MONTHS to even a good year before your brain gets use to this medication (before you actually start seeing results.) It took that long for me. But now I can take 100mg at one time and it works just fine. I can even skip days without taking it and go back on it and there is no problem. I just think that in some people this is a medication that takes our brains a long time to adapt too.
So I do not know if this was your exact problem with this medication however if it is then this would be your best bet to resolve the problem. Give your brain time to adapt to it, it will take a good while before it does. Now it might work good the first time for some people but I do know from talking to other narcoleptics that I am not the only one who has had this problem with provigil.
By the way, here in Canada provigil is called Alertec, it's the SAME drug but it just has a different name. Stupid hey?

I am not saying this to be rude, I am saying this out of seriousness, "go get the test done!"
