Posted by Sara on April 13, 2007 at 05:32:51:Hi! I have been having a lot of strange symptoms since I was like 12, but recently they have gotten much worse, so I started to think that I may have a sleep disorder. I looked for information and narcolepsy is the only one that resembles what I have, though my symptoms are not as severe as those typically described.I usually fall asleep very fast, and immediately start dreaming. Most days I feel sleepy during the day, specially after lunch, even when I sleep 8h or more at night which I most usually do. If I let myself sleep without an alarm clock to wake me up I usually sleep more than 10h. I wake up several times a night for no apparent reason, usually close to sunrise (though I have blinds that completely shut light out). When I wake up I always feel my muscles very weak. It hurts my fingers to use them. I feel tired and it is very hard to get up. I usually feel less tired as day progresses, and my muscle strength improves. This muscle weakness is similar to cataplexy, it gets worse with strong emotions, but it is day-long continuous, instead of sudden. If I wake up very weak, I stay weak all day long, and I can barely use my muscles because they get tired very quickly and start to cramp. when I feel worse my vision is blurred. Sometimes I wake up but then fall asleep very fast again, and in my sleep I am always thinking that I have to wake up and go to work, but I canīt... Can that be considered an hallucination? I also have very vivid dreams with taste, smell and touch... When I don't sleep at least 8h at night I find it very difficult to stay awake when reading or attending a conference. Even when I do sleep enough at night some days I have the need to take a nap in the afternoon, but if I do I sleep 2-3h and wake up more weak and tired than before! Does anyone have a similar experience? Could it be narcolepsy?
