One thing about lying down for a nap (I have found) is that it is so very easy to stay down a good while longer than you intend--even after the typical sleep attack has passed. It's not an evil thing, mind you. However, for a go-getter like yourself it would indeed shoot your daily list of things-to-do all to hell.
I frequently look for places to nap where I can do so sitting. Perhaps prop up my feet as well. My naps last only as long as the attack itself (15-25 minutes), and then I'm good for a couple of hours or more.
I'm curious about your choice of words that you "don't see napping as an option no matter how drowsy you feel." It's a great mentality to have; but in truth, nap attacks are inevitable. There comes a point where napping just isn't a voluntary choice to make. If you're ever in a situation where you are so drowsy that you are falling asleep while walking (this happens to me on occasion), then you are best served by quickly changing your goal to finding a seat ASAP.
