Hi Willow,

Do not say the word lazy. Narcolepsy is a VERY SERIOUS and well known illness (it is not seen as serious or as a well known illness by people who are idiots!) Does someone who has cancer a lazy person, how about MS, or any other illness that robs a person from energy? So why is narcolepsy the exception? If an epileptic has an attack do people say, "They are mentally ill because they are looking for attention." Hey do not go to far with what I am telling you because that is exactly how people viewed epilepsy not all that many decades ago!
So why do you say that you are lazy? No you are not, you have a medical problem that robs you of your alertness to stay awake. That's it and that's all! Plus be careful about referring to your problem as being a "chemical" problem. Many people will misinterpret this. Our problem is like epilepsy, it is organic, due to damaged brain receptors. A chemical problem doesn't actually mean that you have damaged brain cells. Some people might take what you say the wrong way and think that you are saying that you have a chemical imbalance, which in actuality you don't. I know what you meant, all I am saying is it would be better off for yourself to word it a different way when you are talking to other people who do not have this illness. If not then you might end up putting an unpleasant label on yourself. (You know how judgmental and arrogant people can be!)

I do not want to sound negative but after all these years that I have had narcolepsy, I do not wait for the next drug or treatment to come out. You just have to do your best with what you have because I really do believe that there will not be a 100% effective treatment for this illness during our lifetimes.
