Hi,

Yeah it is a good thing to hear Sleepyhead mention that narcoleptics not only have a hard time waking up but also a hard time staying asleep. That is a fact about N that often gets left out. If anything I believe that part of a narcoleptics EDS is due to us also not being able to stay asleep.

Sara,

Honestly no one here can tell you what you have. One thing is for sure, being the young age that you are and experiecing these problems with your health can definitely make you anxious. I know becuase I was 21 when I was diagnosed with narcolepsy and just the stress of seeing doctors, being on medication, etc... was too much for me to handle. When I was young I was VERY sick and had been traumatized by hospitals and doctors. So when this happened with my narcolepsy then that reeked havoc on my mind and body. Plus I was always feeling weak and sleepy all of the time when I knew that at the age of 21 I should have been full of energy and at the peak of my life. All of that puts a major stress on a person and so this is where your anxiety may be coming from? Psychology and psychiatry today tends to see things like anxiety as the root of a problem without looking pass these feilds of medicine towards other forms of medicine. Your anxiety my be coming from the fact that you are young and your body knows that something is wrong with itself. Our bodies and minds tend to have a survival mechanism that is part of our genetic make up that warns us if something is wrong or not. Sometimes things like anxiety is our bodies and minds way of warning us, "something is not right, somethings wrong?" The key is to find out now what it is that is making you stressed out! If you had no other symptoms other then being stressed out all of the time then maybe it is only psychological? However you have been saying that you are very sleepy and very weak all of the time. So my best bet is that something is wrong with your bodies health. (I am not a professional Sara, this is just my opinion from my own experiences.) Also if you are constantly being stressed out with doctor appointments, tests, being told everytime you see a doctor that you might have "this or that" JUST THIS ALONE can cause a person to be stressed out to the MAX!
Just take my word for it from my own experiences in life with doctors Sara, "Do not get jerked around being told that maybe you might have one thing or the other. Then being forced into regular doctor visits and regular testing." If a doctor is a good doctor they will isolate the problem as soon as possible and make a 100% diagnoses! These people, not all doctors but most, will often make what I call, "Partial diagnose." Be careful about this because that will definitly stress you out because then your doctor visits, testing and treatments will NEVER END!

You could have a number of things wrong with you Sara, your weakness could be diabetes or even MS or a hundred other illnesses?

For your other symptoms, I do not know? If you are experiencing HH then this could be experienced in many different ways depending on the person with N (I assume because I only experienced the audio type of it upon awakening MANY YEARS ago. However I am careful who I tell this too because 99.9% of people will blow this out of proportion and label you as mentally ill. Or even worse then that, some people who are jerks will have a fun time playing with your head to make you look that way!) However my question is how did you see a car with a persons head cut off if you were lying in bed?
Also if you are experiencing major anxiety or stress then there is no telling what a persons mind can do to them? If the people that you are around are noisy and are stressing you out about your symptoms then this will not help your anxiety or stress levels. Trust me, it will worsen them ten-fold! Plus if you do have narolepsy or some other illnesses people stressing you out can definitly make you more sick then better! (I mention this because trust me, when you are looking sleepy, fatigued all of the time other people around you will notice it. Don't be fooled that they won't! That is where you might encounter jerks who will stick their nose in your business and this will cause you to become more stressed and anxious then you should naturally be. You can tell that I have been to hell with some people concerning my N. I have had so many rumors made about me that eventually would get back to me by word of mouth and people actually interferring with my life becuase they thought I was on drugs or had mental problems. If anything these same jerks ruined my life and only caused me mental suffering in the end! Man I have had so many freaks stick their nose in my life because they claimed to be people who "liked helping people." If anything they are freaks who have nothing better to do with their time then interfer with other peoples lives and trying to play the HERO who is out to save us. One person I spoke to referred to Cataplexcy as being similar to these goats that faint when they are scared. It was like, in this crazy womans head, that she believed that narcolepsy is actually a problem with fear and that if we were not affraid then we would be cured or something??? I do not know for sure what conclusion she was trying to make BUT it was definitely CRAZY! Oh and that doesn't count all the inhumane people who have used me as a joke because of my serious life condition of N.)

So any ways... these problems your experiencing could be narcoleptic related? However your problem might be external in nature such as your lifestyle, the people in your life, your job, your school, where you live, if you are taking drugs, etc... It could be linked to many external forces! However once again, there is no telling where you weakness, sleepiness, fatigue, and the other symptoms are coming from? If you are diagnosed as being narcoleptic then "you" can put to rest your anxiety about "it." However you do not know yet what is wrong with you.
