I've been paying attention to this and I don't think I am deprived of REM sleep. On the contrary, at any given time of the night I can be awakened by a noise from outside or my wife, and it is 95% certain that I will be aware that in the midst of a very vivid dream. If I'm not in a dream, I'm just mulling over some idea, or listening to subconsciously created symphonic music (this is actually a very cool.) My dream life is very active and very rich. In fact, I suspect that I'm often exhausted during the day because I've spent the bulk of the night living out vivid action-thrillers, hanging out with friends and family, or soaring through Astral, Sky, Ocean, and Earth (apparently its not really all that hot down there, and there are some curious lifeforms which swim through the mantle and look like huge featureless butterflies - if someone else has seen these then let me know! ;-))
